JG Thirlwell urodził się w 1960 roku w Melbourne, jest wokalistą, multiinstrumentalistą, producentem i twórcą remiksów. Współpracował między innymi z: Nickiem Cavem, Lydią Lunch, Markiem Almondem, Coil, Nurse With Wound, Current 93, Einstürzende Neubauten, Voivod, Melvins, remiksował utwory Nine Inch Nails, Pantery, Faith No More itd., obecnie Jim tworzy muzykę do dwóch popularnych animacji Archera i The Venture Bros

Foetus - główny projekt Jima, w początkowych założeniach był to swego rodzaju atak na szeroko rozumianą muzykę rozrywkową z wykorzystaniem wszystkich jej "sztuczek", styl Foetus jest oparty na post-punkowo / industrialny szkielecie do którego Thirlwell dodaje wpływy: rock 'n rolla, punk rocka, jazzu, blues'a, muzyki klasycznej, filmowej, a nawet surf rocka, wszystko to okraszone tekstami pełnymi czarnego poczucia humoru i ironii

Fajna sprawa, wpływowy zespół, ciekawy frontman. Wydawałoby się, że wszytko na niebie i ziemi wskazuję że powinienem się polubić z Foetusem. I odbiłem się od Nail. Wymęczyło mnie to okrutnie niczym katar o poranku. Nigdy więcej, przykro mi pit. Ta sama historia co z No Means No.

Nightmare Cinema is an anthology of five short horror films directed by Alejandro Brugues, Joe Dante, Mick Garris, Ryuhei Kitamaru and David Slade. JG Thirlwell created the original musical score for the David Slade section of the film, which has its New York premiere on November 29 2018 at the NYC Horror Festival at 7pm at Cinepolis Chelsea. The film will be getting a theatrical run in 2019.

JG Thirlwell has scored the new animated short-form series Dicktown, which airs as part of the live-action/animated hybrid anthology TV series Cake! on FXX. The show premiered on July 9 2020. You can also see it streaming on Hulu.

Dicktown was created by John Hodgman and David Rees, who wrote and star in the series as themselves. Hodgman plays “a grown up boy detective and David is my former high school bully turned partner.” Hodgman is an author who is well known for his appearances on The Daily Show and elsewhere. The show was produced by Floyd County Productions.

Thirlwell produced and performed the noir score at his Self Immolation Studio in Brooklyn, with contributions from guest musicians Pete Moffett on drums and Simon Hanes on guitar.

In September 2022 JG Thirlwell will be taking part in the sound art project freq_wave (Pacific; Los Angeles)

freq_wave (Pacific; Los Angeles) is an immersive installation by pioneering new media and conceptual artist, Carl Michael von Hausswolff, who will transform the interior of the 100-inch Telescope at Mount Wilson Observatories with a visual and sound installation. The project brings together twelve individual sound works by twelve artists, each operating within a unique frequency range based on field recordings from the Pacific Ocean and amplified to act as a single, generative sonic zone.

The artists participating will include Greg Anderson, Jana Winderen, Minoru Sato, Jimena Sarno, Bethan Kellough, Tom Recchion, JG Thirlwell, Alba Triana, Jónsi, Lawrence English, Yan Jun and Richard Chartier.

freq_wave is part of the Fulcrum Festival. The installation will be open from 11am-5pm at Mt Wilson Observatory, Sep 23-25 2022.

JG Thirlwell has been hard at work this year on the original score of Season 13 of the Emmy -winning animated TV show Archer. The premiere date has been announced, August 24 2022 at 10/9c on FXX. Episodes will be available to stream the next day on Hulu. Thirlwell began scoring the show at season 7.
