Zespół założony w 2007 roku przez związanego z nowojorską sceną hardcore punk Mika Hilla, znanego wcześniej z Anodyne czy Versoma. Grupa na pierwszych wydawnictwach prezentuje kipiace od świetnych pomysłów, połączenie post-metalu z elementami post-hardcore/sludge i black metal.
Z czasem (i po zmianie składu) w muzyce Tombs zaczęły dochodzić do głosu zainteresowania Hilla rockiem i metalem gotyckim. Na ostatnich wydawnictwach wyraźnie słychać wpływy Fields of the Nephilim czy Tryptikon, co dało dość ciekawy efekt. Choć osobiście wolę pierwsze płyty.
